United States Senator for Alaska
Senator Lisa Murkowski is the first Alaskan-born Senator and the state’s senior Senator. She is a third-generation Alaskan, born in Ketchikan and raised in towns across the state. Senator Murkowski is the Chairman of both the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on the Interior and Environment.
Senator Murkowski is considered the leading expert among her Congressional colleagues on Arctic issues – and has worked continuously on Capitol Hill to raise awareness of the Arctic region.
At the beginning of the 114th Congress, Senator Murkowski and Senator Angus King (I-ME) formed the Senate Arctic Caucus, to advance issues important to the Arctic and to the people who live there. Murkowski is the U.S. Representative to the Standing Committee of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region. Murkowski believes the Arctic is a national asset, should be treated as a national priority, and continues to push for the United States to invest in the infrastructure and assets critical to supporting an Arctic strategy.
