Ásthildur Sturludóttir

Mayor of Akureyri, Iceland

Ásthildur Sturludóttir is the second  female mayor in the history of Akureyri Municipality located in the far north of Iceland and is the largest Municipality outside of Reykjavík capital area with around 19 thousand inhabitants. The most northern part of the Municipality is the island of Grímsey which is a gem on the Arctic Circle.  Before her work in Akureyri, Ásthildur was the first selected female Mayor in Vesturbyggð, a Municipality located in the far north west of Iceland, and served two terms from 2010 to 2018. Ásthildur holds a bachelor degree in Politics from the University of Iceland and MPA degree from PACE University in New York.
