Marjolein Admiraal

University of Groningen (RUG), The Netherlands

Marjolein Admiraal is an archaeologist with many interests, ranging from prehistoric archaeology in Alaska to geographic processes, geopolitics and climate change in the Arctic. During her BA and MA in archaeology at the University of Groningen (RUG) she focused her studies on the first human colonization of the American continent during the last ice age. Currently, she is conducting a PhD project at the RUG Arctic Centre, researching the use of pottery in SW Alaska through the application of organic residue analysis in collaboration with the University of York. Over the years, she has learned a great deal about the Arctic. I got to participate in discussions at high level concerning oil and gas drilling and geopolitics in the Arctic. On Spitsbergen, she spent one term studying permafrost processes and visited Alaska multiple times. She enjoys studying the Arctic because it allows her to develop this broad range of skills and interests.
