Justine Ammendolia (Canada)

Justine Ammendolia is a marine biologist, plastic pollution researcher and science communicator based out of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. Following the completion of her Masters of Science, she works as a researcher with Memorial University of Newfoundland. As a member of the Placentia Bay Ocean Debris Survey team, she researches the plastic landscapes of coastlines in the province through monitoring marine debris in: fish, sediments, surface waters and shorelines. Her previous research is diverse and has included, working with Arctic seabirds in Greenland to conducting plastic surface trawls in Northern Canada. An avid science communicator, Justine is regularly invited to give external presentations about her travels and scientific adventures. As a National Geographic Young Explorer, she has collaborated with the Society through delivering lectures and has written educational material based on her research. She is driven to pursue a PhD and research career in marine ecology and plastic pollution.
