Evangelina (Elina) Efstathiou (Greece)

University of Bergen and Bjerknes Centre, Norway

Evangelina (Elina) Efstathiou completed her BSc studies in Physics and MSc in Oceanography and Marine Environmental Management, at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece. In both of her thesis, she worked with numerical models studying large scale circulations on the Mediterranean Sea and North Atlantic. Specifically, during her master thesis she studied the impact of the Mediterranean Sea on one of the most important physical mechanism which configures the Earth’s overall climate, the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC). Currently, she is a PhD candidate at the University of Bergen in Norway. Elina is interested in the role that the ocean plays on climate, particularly focusing on present and future change in the Arctic sea ice cover.
