Emmelie Åström (Norway)

University of Tromsø

Emmelie H. Åström is a marine ecologist with a PhD degree from the department of Geosciences, UiT – the Arctic University of Norway, where she examined Arctic cold seeps and animal communities. She is currently a postdoctoral scholar within the research program VISTA, part of the Norwegian Academy for Science and Letters with UiT as host-university. The post doc. project continues the focus on communities at cold seeps, these special locations where methane naturally emerge from the seabed, and she is especially targeting food-web interactions using stable isotope analysis.

In 2018, Emmelie joined the first research cruise with Norway’s new icebreaker Kronprins Haakon and “Nansen Legacy” to collect samples for her post.doc project. Before moving to Norway in 2014, Emmelie studied Marine Sciences at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. She is originally from a town located along the Swedish east coast and it was the immediate access to the Baltic Sea that first raised her interest for lifeforms in aquatic systems.
