Ciera Lee-Kooneeliusie

Search and Rescue Programs Officer, Canadian Coast Guard

I was born and raised in Qikiqtarjuaq and Panniqtuuq, NU. I grew up intertwined in and aware of a rapidly evolving landscape, both in our physical environment and epistemology. My parents, both passionate educators, skilled hunters and navigators, supported my placement between the Euro-Canadian world and our traditional world – this provided me with the footing to support where I am today. My career with the Canadian Coast Guard’s Arctic Region began in 2018, when I worked as a Search and Rescue (SAR) Crewmember with the newly developed Inshore Rescue Boat Program in the Arctic. Since then, my career with the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) has continued to develop as I have taken on various positions with increasing ability to enact change in how the program is established specifically for the Arctic.
