Alexandra Cherkasheva (Russia)

Alexandra Cherkasheva received her PhD in Natural Sciences in 2014 from the Physics and Electrotechnics department of the University of Bremen, Germany. After graduating she received an Alfred-Wegener-Institute Science Award for her work on the influence of recent changes in the Arctic sea ice on phytoplankton blooms. Since 2015 she works in the Institute of Earth Sciences, St Petersburg State University, Russia. She is a Vice president of the St Petersburg State University Earth Sciences Young Professionals Board. Her research interests are monitoring of climate change in the Arctic, satellite methods in biological oceanography, implementation of sustainable development goals,  and urban climate governance in Russia. Alexandra is also a member of the Academic and Methodological Commission of the Earth Sciences in Saint Petersburg State University where she works on the modernization of the Russian education system.
