Description
A side event during Our Ocean 2018, Bali organised by the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway and Arctic Frontiers.
This seminar will focus on marine science and technology as the foundation for sustainable ocean activities. In meeting the objectives of SDG 14 and other relevant SDGs, scientific knowledge of the marine environment and the natural resources there, as well as the development of appropriate technologies, are critical.
Ocean based industries have the potential to outperform world economic growth in the years through 2030, and the value added contribution of these industries could double. How do we ensure that objectives of economic growth and conservation of ocean environment are balanced in a good way? How can science programs providing new knowledge, like MAREANO, contribute to informed management decisions, both in politics and for the industry? On the basis of numerous international agreements relating to the oceans – how can we move from paper to practice? What are the important lessons when it comes to the implementation of international agreements?
